Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is a subsidiary website created by Ministry of Railways back in 1999 for the passengers to avail all the facilities related to journey in online. As more number of people are using the internet, railways thought that this scheme would help them to get the facilities on their own.

In this website, one can book/cancel train tickets on their own.  Other facilities such as Ticket Inquiry, seat availability, train between two stations, Check PNR status, Previous booking ticket history, etc.

To access the above facilities a person must have IRCTC account. If you do not have the account, then register with your active mobile number and email ID. The registration process is simple.

Every Passenger should know train names and their number while traveling. Every train running between two destinations have name and number.

  • Enter any following detail whichever you are aware of such as train number or train name. Here if you know train number, then you find train name or else if you see train number then you can find train name.
  • Click on submit option to proceed further. Now you’ll get the information of train running between different locations from source to the end destination.

During festival season special trains are allocated to primary stations. The information about individual trains will be available on IRCTC website in advance. Check IRCTC website regularly to get information.

IRCTC brought a new scheme for the passengers who are planning to travel immediately. The prices under Tatkal scheme are higher than the regular rates. The ticket booking opens on the day before the journey at various times. This plan is only applicable to private classes.

For all the Air-Conditioned reserved class the booking starts at 10:00 AM in the morning, and for the non AC classes the reservation begins at 11:00 AM.  Only limited tickets allocated in every train.

There will be the vast traffic, and if you are planning to book a ticket at that time, then you must be faster than other to reserve one. During Festival times Tatkal tickets will be scheduled in seconds. You can even book Tatkal tickets from IRCTC App using the same credentials.

IRCTC App is available in play store for free. Android users can download and use it for various facilities while traveling in trains.
